About the Trust Fund

A new 10YFP Trust Fund Call for Proposals for Sustainable Food Systems Programme is open from 1st December 2016 until 15th of January 2017. For more information please refer to Global SCP Clearinghouse.

The 10YFP Trust Fund is one of the means of implementation of the Ten Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns (10YFP). It is used to support programmes and initiatives to shift towards SCP patterns that respond to the national and regional priorities of developing countries and countries with economies in transition. The 10YFP Secretariat coordinates the calls for proposals in close collaboration with the 10YFP programmes and the 10YFP Board. Six calls for proposals have been issued over the last year and so far 18 proposals have been retained for funding through the Trust Fund. The projects selected to date are in different stages of implementation (see Selected Projects for more information). 

Applicants may be any regional, national, local governmental institution, agency or subsidiary body; not-for-profits; associations; civil society; community based organisations; universities, scientific/technical organisations with headquarters in developing or transition economies. Projects should aim at supporting the programmes and initiatives responding to the national and regional priorities of the country where they are implemented. Private sector organizations are not eligible to be project “applicants” or to receive funds from the 10YFP Trust Fund. An executing agency can optionally be designated by the applicant to implement the project. Executing agencies can be: UN Agencies and other inter-governmental organisations (IGOs), not-for-profit organisations, governmental institutions / agencies from developing and developed countries. For profit organizations cannot be designated as executing agencies.

Chile: Smartphone App for Sustainable Consumption

National Consumer Service/Servicio Nacional del Consumidor (SERNAC)
The objective of the project is to provide science-based, clear, comparable and complete information on the sustainability of fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) in order to empower consumers and enable them to make well-informed, sustainable decisions. This will be achieved through the development of a smartphone application (app) that provides information to consumers.

China: Sustainable Consumption Research Programme: Consumer Awareness and Behavioural Change in Sustainable Consumption

China Chain Store & Franchise Association
The research project, which includes a survey of consumer behaviours from cities in China on sustainable consumption aims to: 1) understand the progress in the field of consumer information for SCP; 2) increase consumer awareness and knowledge in this field, 3) identify new opportunities and the driving forces for promoting sustainable consumption in China, 4) change consumers and business sector behaviour towards sustainability and 5) facilitate relevant policy making. 

Sri Lanka: Promoting SCP in Sri Lanka through facilitating accessibility to information

National Cleaner Production Centre Sri Lanka (NCPC)
Consumers in Sri Lanka currently lack information on environmental performances of a product or a technology. Addressing this issue, the project aims to enhance consumer information availability of agri-food sector. The agri-food industry in Sri Lanka is one of the emerging and lucrative industries in terms of production, consumption, export and growth prospects. Food safety is also crosscutting issue that can be addressed by bringing together collaborative efforts of those concerned.

Brazil: Education for Sustainability and Consumption

Alana Institute
The objective of this project is to sensitize educators, students and the school community (employees, parents, and the surrounding population), in the sphere of municipal and state primary public schools in all 5 Brazilian regions about consumerism and sustainability. The expected result is that these individuals, especially children and adolescents, act as catalysts in responsible consumerism for a more sustainable present and future.

Chile: Direct use of geothermal energy for the promotion of sustainable production model in rural areas of Chile

Universidad de Chile
The objective of the project is to promote the use of geothermal energy in rural areas of Chile for direct use of heat energy.

India and Bangladesh: Sustainable Consumption and Recycling Interventions for Paper and Textiles (SCRIPT) for Reducing Urban Climate Footprints 

South Asian Forum for Environment [SAFE]
The project aims to reduce paper and textile waste through informed use and awareness, as well to enhance the product life-cycles. The project targets two essential consumer products, paper and textiles, whose compositional value in municipal waste is increasing significantly owing to unsustainable usage and wastage. 

Malaysia: Upscaling Sound Food Waste Management Practices through Youth and Community Education in Schools and Institute of Higher Learning, Malaysia 

Forum Air Malaysia
The objective is to transition behaviour to responsible food consumption. Namely to reduce food waste and improve source separation and composting of food waste. This will minimize food waste ending up in largely unsanitary landfills which contribute to GHG emissions.

Zimbabwe: Sustainable lifestyles among rural families in Zimbabwe: Small-scale conservation farming to change lifestyles in Africa and beyond

Development Aid from People to People Zimbabwe (DAPP)
The objective is to accelerate the transition toward sustainable and low carbon lifestyles in Africa. Specifically to promote and replicate sustainable farming, adaptation and mitigation to climate change in rural areas in Zimbabwe. The project will organize community members via Farmers’ Clubs, which will function as catalysts to organize rural small-scale farmer production and cooperation models. 

Philippines: Establishment and Implementation of GPP in Quezon City for the Promotion of SCP in the Philippines

Philippine Center for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development, Inc (PCEPSDI)
The objective is to establish and implement a comprehensive Green Public Procurement (GPP) Programme for Quezon City Local Government that will demonstrate a model to promote SCP in the country. The project is divided into three major components:
1. GPP Institutionalization: setting up the framework of the project within the operations of the Quezon city procurement activities 
2. Technical assistance: product selection process and capacity building activities of GPP stakeholders
3. GPP implementation: GPP procedures from planning to operation, promotion and evaluation

South Africa: Mainstreaming sustainable public procurement through the introduction of product service systems in Western Cape, South Africa

Western Cape Government, Environmental Affairs & Development Planning
This project will introduce product service systems (PSS) in the Western Cape as an instrument to implement sustainable public procurement and aims to:
1. Address public accounting hurdles faced when implementing PSS,
2. Respond to the Province’s and South Africa’s green growth and sustainable development goals, and
3. Contribute toward achieving value for money for the public purse across asset life cycles.

Uruguay: Towards a Sustainable Public Procurement System in Uruguay  

Agencia de Compras y Contrataciones del Estad (ACCE) – National Procurement Agency
The objective of this project is to transform the Uruguayan Public Procurement System as an enabler for sustainable development, promoting the production of sustainable goods and services as well as more efficient and sustainable consumption from the public sector. This will be achieved through the following: a) design and implementation of a National Sustainable Public Procurement Policy, b) incorporation of supply chain management and life-cycle approach in the Uruguayan Public Procurement System, c) strengthen public buyers and national suppliers’ capacity for the application of sustainability criteria, and d) design and implement a monitoring system to control sustainability standards compliance.
