The first Central Asian sub-regional (multi-stakeholder) 10YFP meeting took place on 23-24th November in Almaty, Kazakhstan. It was co-hosted by UNEP as the 10YFP Secretariat and the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, with the financial support of the Federal Office for the Environment of the Swiss Confederation and the European Commission. The meeting brought together 25 participants including policy-makers, civil society and business sector representatives from the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan as well as representatives from the 10YFP Programmes. It has provided a space for expert dialogue, knowledge-sharing and partnership-building under the thematic programmes of the 10YFP, including Sustainable Buildings and Construction, Sustainable Public Procurement, and Sustainable Food Systems.
During the Marrakech Process most regions have developed their regional Sustainable Consumption and Production strategies, such as the African 10YFP, the LAC SCP strategy, the Arab regional strategy on SCP, the Asian Green Growth Initiative and the European Union SCP and sustainable industrial policy Action Plan. The 10YFP is meant to support these strategies with its further implementation, scalling up best practices and replicating successful initiatives.
During the 10YFP first year, regional multi-stakeholder meetings on SCP (10YFP Regional meetings) have taken place as initiatives from the regional stakeholders. This includes the Arab Roundtable on SCP, the Latin America and the Caribbean expert meeting on SCP, and the Western Europe and Others Group (WEOG) national focal point meeting on the 10YFP. Other regional 10YFP meetings are to be confirmed in Africa, Eastern Europe, and Asia Pacific.
