UNEP Risøe Centre
The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) sub-component is executed by the UNEP
Risøe Centre on Energy, Climate and Sustainable Development. UNEP
Risøe Centre supports the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)
in its aim to incorporate environmental and development aspects into energy
planning and policy worldwide, with special emphasis on assisting developing
countries. UNEP Risøe Centre operates under a tripartite agreement
between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, Risøe National
Laboratory for Sustainable Energy at the Technical University of Denmark
(Risøe DTU), and UNEP.
UNEP Risøe Centre will work to enable targeted ACP countries to fully
participate in the global carbon market. Host countries will be able to
identify, design, approve, finance, implement and monitor CDM projects that
both address their sustainable development priorities as well as offer a
cost-effective option for carbon credit buyers to comply with their obligations
under the Kyoto Protocol. The proposed activities will give special emphasis
on the development of a national CDM portfolio of projects that could be
marketed in international carbon events such as the Carbon Expo and posted
on each country’s Designated National Authority (DNA) website.
UNEP Risøe Centre will implement activities worth a total of 4.35
million Euros over four years.
