Litegreen.com plant 3,000 trees
Online consumer information and shopping directory Litegreen.com have announced that their first batch of 3,000 trees is to be planted in Malawi, Africa.
The UK based website has pledged to plant 100,000 trees by the end of 2007 as part of the United Nations ‘billion tree campaign’.
The tree planting programme donates trees through their chosen charity, Restore UK.
Litegreen.com founder Chris Shaw says “We don’t just plant trees because they absorb carbon dioxide; our tree planting in Malawi forms part of a development scheme, designed around local environmental and community benefits. By helping vulnerable Malawian communities to plant appropriate trees in appropriate places, we are helping them to halt deforestation and to regenerate their degraded land and ecosystems in order to provide sustainable livelihoods for their families.”
Litegreen.com review brands against environmental and human rights standards. This allows consumers to understand which high street brands take these issues seriously.
To reward shoppers who buy via the site, a tree is planted for every £50 spent. On top of this they also plant a free tree for everyone who registers.
Chris adds “The green and ethical marketplace is developing rapidly and consumers have a right to know which brands are leading the way. By providing this information to shoppers and using trees to address both the causes and effects of climate change we feel we can have a really positive effect for both the planet and its people”.
To mark its pledge to the United Nations ‘billion tree campaign’, Litegreen.com have promised to plant an extra tree for everyone who registers. Simply select ‘United Nations’ in ‘Where did you hear about us’ when you register and two trees will be planted as part of their second batch.

Information about Restore UK
Restore UK is a grant-making charity which was founded in 2000 with the aim of helping to protect and restore the UK’s natural habitat by supporting carefully selected projects, driven by existing environmental organisations.
Since its launch, Restore UK has evolved to broaden its horizons geographically. This includes working with partners across the African continent funding and supporting local, community led projects, dedicated to planting and maintaining trees.
Litegreen.com has chosen Restore UK as its preferred partner because of their responsible approach to tree planting.
This approach has a dual benefit in helping reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and arguably a more significant and immediate benefit in helping sustain local communities already threatened by climate change and chronic deforestation. More >>
