The Disaster Management Information System for Africa profiles institutions in Africa that work in the areas of disaster and environmental risk reduction.
This Information System has been developed by UNEP Division of Environmental Policy Implementation (DEPI) Disaster Management Branch under the auspices of the African Environmental Information Network (AEIN).

The AEIN is an Africa-driven initiative to provide better access to information and knowledge about the continents environmental assets. It is in line with UNEP's response to Governing Council 20/5 regarding the implementation of national environment information system strategies to support environment and development decision-making. The AEIN also responds to technical needs identified by the African Ministerial Conference on Environment (AMCEN), as well as expressions of interest from African agencies, policy makers, environmental managers and researchers.

The Disaster Management Information System for Africa has three main functions:
  • To showcase expertise of institutions that are currently involved in disaster management.
  • To enhance information exchange and promote coordination of disaster management activities in Africa.
  • To continue the process of compiling new information from institutions.
