The UNEP Coral Reef Unit (CRU) and the International Coral Reef Action Network (ICRAN)
CRU and ICRAN spearhead an international effort to save the planet's threatened coral reefs, guiding and mobilizing policies and actions to reverse coral reef degradation. Coral reefs are highly complex and highly diverse ecosystems. The continued health and sustainable use of reefs and their related coastal ecosystems is crucial to the cultural values and livelihoods of more than a billion people across the world.
Located at UNEP's World Conservation Monitoring Centre, CRU and ICRAN collaborate closely with the Regional Seas Programme, the Global Programme of Action and other international partners such as the International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI) and ICRIs operational networks to increase and coordinate local, national and international support for the conservation, protection and sustainable management of coral reefs.
