The objective of the International Assessment of Agricultural Science and Technology for Development (IAASTD) is to undertake a global and five sub-global assessments of the role of agricultural knowledge, science and technology (KST) in reducing hunger and poverty, improving rural livelihoods, and facilitating equitable, environmentally, socially and economically sustainable development.
The assessment has four components:
- A framework
- A global assessment
- Five sub-global assessments managed by a regional institution:

Sub-saharan Africa (SSA) managed by the African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS) based in Nairobi, Kenya; |
 |
Central and West Asia and North Africa (CWANA) managed by the International Centre for Agricultural Research in Dry Areas (ICARDA) based in Aleppo, Syria; |
 |
East and South Asia and the Pacific (ESAP) managed by the World Fish Centre based in Penang, Malaysia; |
 |
Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) managed by the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) based in San Jose, Costa Rica; |
 |
North America and Europe (NAE). |
- Communications and Outreach
The IAASTD has a multi-stakeholder base including FAO, GEF, UNDP, UNEP, UNESCO, the World Bank, WHO and representatives of governments, civil society, the private sector and scientific institutions from around the world.
