The first European film festival dedicated to the Green Economy 9-23 October 2012 - online & in Brussels

Europe/Brussels -The Green Up Film Festival is about to engage all Europeans in the first ever online documentary film festival.

For 15 days Europeans are just a few clicks away from 26 documentaries on topics relevant to a Green Economy (including sustainable development, rational consumption & fair trade) streaming free of charge from the festival website.

The films and the festival website itself invite viewers to learn and reflect on what they can do to help preserve our environment. Impressions and ideas can be shared online through social media.

"As we can no longer disassociate the economy and the environment in a globalised, growing and changing world, the Green Economy presents itself as an overarching theme that merits promotion," explains Anne-Laure Detilleux, Festival Director.

"Our system has reached its limits and we require solutions for future development that will be more sustainable, more ethical, more socially responsible, and in accordance with the needs of a rapidly growing world population. In our eyes, the Green Economy is THE solution. That's why we have taken this opportunity to familiarize the general public with this now widely accepted economic and governance model," she added.

In order to expand the Green Economy discussion to European governmental institutions as well as individuals, the Green Up Film Festival takes advantage of engaging in Brussels - the so-called European capital. A special Ciné-ONU screening at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel on 10 October marks the start of the festival, with subsequent off-line events at the Palais des Beaux-Arts of Brussels on 21 and 23 October.

The Green Up Film Festival is organised by "Wake Up!" with the support of the GreenUp! Campaign powered by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP ? www.unep.org/greenup).
