Chinese Children's Painting Competition Winners Visit Kenya
16 July 2008 - Twenty first place winners of the 2008 Chinese Children's Painting Competition organized by the Luo Hong Foundation and UNEP are in Nairobi to receive their awards from UNEP Executive Director Achim Steiner. The 20 children were selected winners of the competition which was had over 1.5 million entries from all regions of China. Other winners include 100 second place winners and 500 third place winners. The theme of the Competition was Climate Change: "What can we do to make our earth cool down?" The Chinese Children's Painting Competition is chaired by Liz Rihoy.
Three of the 20 winners were sponsored by UNEP to attend the Tunza International Children's Conference held in Stavanger, Norway from 17 to 21 June 2008. This conference was attended by 1,000 participants from 104 countries. They had the opportunity to learn more about the environment, share their experiences on various issues and make new friends!
Each child will receive a certificate of commendation as well as a UNEP Tunza Gift Pack containing environmental publications and stationery at the awards ceremony. Luo Hong, Liz Rihoy, His Excellency Zhang Ming the Chinese Ambassador to Kenya, and other distinguished guests, will attend the awards ceremony.
The children will participate in cultural exchange activities, and visit the Maasai Mara, Lake Nakuru and the Giraffe Center during their visit to Kenya.
