PROGRAMME MATTERS

Agenda item 7 (a), (b) and (c), together with parts of item 15, were referred Sessional Committee I. The Committee had before it the following documents: view of the environmental situation and of activities relating to the environment (UNEP/GC/30); the proposed programme (UNEP/GC/31 and Corr-1-3 and proposed Fund programme activities (revised 1975, proposed 1976-1977) 32 and Corr-1-3); resolutions of the twenty-ninth session of the General of relevance to UNEP's activities (UNEP/GC/51 and Corr.1 and Add.1); and nation of General Assembly resolution 3337 (XXIX): International cooperation to combat desertification (UNEP/GC/51/Add.2 and Corr.1)

In an introductory statement, the Assistant Executive Director (Programme) d that the documents before the Committee reflected the programmatic approach the Level One report (UNEP/GC/30) aimed at identifying the areas where s required to protect the environment; the Level Two report (UNEP/GC/31 -3) described the actions which should be implemented within the framework programme of UNEP in order to meet those requirements, in terms of objectives strategy; the Level Three report (UNEP/GC/32 and Corr-1-3) indicated the role Environment Fund in facilitating the fulfillment of the objectives and strategies in the various programme areas.
