UNEP Annual Report 2004

The UNEP 2004 Annual Report looks at the organization's work and achievements during the year. Under the headings 'The Age of Partnerships' and 'Protecting Natural Resources' the report looks at the organization's advances in forging collaborations with civil society, the private sector, international organizations and governments in promoting sustainable development and protecting the environmental foundations on which human society stands.

Highlights of the year include the Russian Federation's presentation of its Kyoto Protocol ratification papers to the UN Secretary-General at UNEP headquarters, and the awarding of the Nobel Prize for Peace to the Kenyan environmental activist, Wangari Maathai, which emphasizes the link between environment and security, a growing area of focus for UNEP.
