Closing of GC24/GMEF - 9 February 2007
The 24th session of UNEP's Governing Council/Global Ministerial Environment Forum ended today on a high note with governments from 140 countries adopting 16 key decisions ranging from tackling toxic mercury pollution, water policy and municipal waste, to the Bali Strategic Plan for Technology Support and Capacity Building. The meeting also sent a clear signal of renewed determination to address UN reform including strengthening international environment governance and to identify ways of maximizing the opportunities and minimizing the risks of globalization.
