REGIONAL LEADERSHIP TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR THE NAIROBI CONVENTION

I. INFORMATION FOR PARTICIPANTS

The United Nations Environment Programme in partnership with the Institute of Marine Sciences (IMS) welcomes you to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania for the training workshop on Leadership in Environmental Management for Oceans and Coasts in the Western Indian Ocean region. The regional workshop is being hosted by the Nairobi Convention Secretariat and the Institute of Marine Sciences (IMS) of the University of Dar es Salaam.

This information document provides details related to logistical arrangements for the training workshop. Participants are kindly requested to take note of the same.


1. Venue
The training workshop on leadership in environmental management for oceans and coasts in the Western Indian Ocean region will be held from 23-26 May 2011 at the Whitesands Hotel in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.


2. Hotel Reservations
The organizers have made a block booking for participants at the Whitesands Hotel, Dar es Salaam Tanzania. Hotel accommodation for all sponsored participants has already been paid i.e. for bed and breakfast. The hotel contact details are:  White Sands Hotel

3. Daily Subsistence Allowance (DSA)
Sponsored participants will receive their DSA in Dar es Salaam.


4. Airport  - Hotel – Airport transfers
Airport transfer has been arranged for confirmed participants. The service provider will be at the arrivals lobby holding a board labeled “Leadership Training Workshop”.  The organizers will settle the airport transfer bill with the service provider.


5. Registration of participants
Participants will be registered on arrival.


6. Badges
Identity badges will be issued to all participants upon registration.


7. Documentation
Meeting documents have already been distributed to the participants via email.  The documents are also available at the Nairobi Convention website at http://www.unep.org/NairobiConvention/


8. Time Zone
Tanzania is GMT + 0300 hours.


9. Visas
Participants are required to make their own arrangements for issuance of entry visa to Tanzania. Participants should have received invitation letters to enable them process the necessary travel documents.


10. Health
Participants are advised to carry their yellow fever vaccination certificate.


11. Weather

Dar es Salaam weather in May is mostly cloudy, humidity 86 % and temperature ranges from 26oC to 28oC.


12. Official Language
The official languages of the United Republic of Tanzania are Kiswahili and English.


13. Currency, credit cards and banks

The official currency of the Republic of Tanzania is the Tanzania Shilling (Tshs). The current exchange rate vis-à-vis the two main international currencies is approximately Tshs. 1522 for one US dollar. Participants may obtain local currency at foreign exchange bureaus or in local banks.   Visa and Master Credit Cards are widely accepted in major hotels and establishments. However, participants will need cash for transactions in local shops and supermarkets.
