Regional Coordination Meeting on the Project Preparation Grant (PPG) phase of the GEF project
“Implementing Integrated Water Resources and Wastewater Management in Atlantic and Indian Ocean Small Island Developing States (SIDS)”
Mombasa, Kenya 10 December 2009

The Regional Coordination Meeting was organized by the Joint Secretariat for the Nairobi and Abidjan Conventions, the executing agency for the PPG phase and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the co-implementing agency. The goal of the PPG phase is the preparation of a Full Size Project (FSP) to assist participating countries to accelerate progress on the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) targets on Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM)/ Water Use Efficiency (WUE) plans, water supply and sanitation MDG’s, through adoption and implementation of an integrated approach to water resource management and water use efficiency.

The main objective of the coordination meeting was to discuss progress on implementation of national PPG activities in the participating countries. During the meeting national focal points presented results of the PPG process including national IWRM status reports outlining national diagnostic and hotspot analyses; and demonstration projects.

Secondly, the meeting deliberated on elements of the Full Size Project (FSP), including its implementation and the work plan for timely completion of the PPG phase. More..
