Regional Coordinating Unit (RCU) |
The RCU for the Nairobi Convention
was established by United Nations Environment
Programme (UNEP) in cooperation with the Government
of Seychelles.
The First Meeting of the Contracting
Parties (COP) to the Nairobi Convention,held in
Sychelles, March, 1997, adopted a long-term Work
Programme of Action and conferred to the Nairobi
Convention RCU, the responsibilities for activities
geared towards enhancing political visibility
for the Nairobi Convention, and resource mobilization.
The Interim Coordinator under
the Government of Seychelles, is hosted by the
Ministry of Environment Natural Resources and
Transport as the host country of the RCU is responsible
for implementing all the activities that enhance
the political goodwill to address governments'
commitment to the Nairobi Convention and financial
matters, notably contributions to the Trust Fund
and dialogue with donors.
