On Wednesday, 25 June, UNEA opened with another packed day of events. These included media roundtables on "Greening Small Island Developing States" and "Extractive Industries and Ape Conservation", a Africa-China Ministerial Meeting, and side events on topics such as "Green and Decent Jobs".

A Symposium on Financing a Green Economy brought together Ministers of Environment, policymakers and actors from across financial markets, to examine the relationship between capital markets and a greener economy.

Members of the press were briefed by European Commissioner for the Environment Janez Potočnik on the topic of the circular economy. In addition, a new report entitled South-South Trade in Renewable Energy: A Trade Flow Analysis of Selected Environmental Goods was launched during a press conference.

A screening of the documentary film "Waste Land" (2010) was organized by the Government of Brazil, and a Ministerial Working Dinner on Climate Change was Organized by Poland, Peru and France.
