2nd Regional Training programme for Lusophone African Countries
2007 (Actual date to be confirmed)
Location to be confirmed.
The objectives of the training course are as follows:-
- To impart knowledge and skills in environmental law to Lusophone countries; experts/officials designated by their Governments; in order to enhance their capacity.
- To be able to develop on-going national environmental laws and regulations.
- To create a pool of national legal experts form Lusophone countries, fully aware of relevant international and national environmental issues and practices relating to environmental law.
- To acquaint participants with concepts and methodologies of environmental law, in order to ensure improved delivery of legal services when they return to their respective countries.
- To share information and experiences on the level of development of their national environmental law and institutions.

Symposium on the Role of Parliamentarians in Advancing Environmental Law & Policy
17 - 19 October, 2006
Maseru, Lesotho.
UNEP under the auspices of its project known as Partnership for the Development of Environmental law and Institutions in Africa (PADELIA) and the SADC Parliamentary Forum jointly convened a symposium on 17–19 October 2006, in Maseru, Lesotho to discuss the role of parliamentarians in advancing environmental law, policy and sustainable development. The Parliamentarians discussed their role in the development and implementation of environmental law and policy in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and East African Community sub-regions of Africa.

2nd Symposium of Environmental Law Lecturers
September 25 - 28, 2006
Entebbe, Uganda
Theme was - “ New Horizons in Environmental Law, Natural Resources and Poverty Eradication.”
The Symposium intended to fulfill the following objectives:
- To review and approve
- the Constitutive Instrument establishing the Association of Environmental Law Lecturers in African Universities.
- introduction of a Journal of African Environmental Law and Policy;
- creation of an African Database of Environmental Law
- the proposals and initiatives of the Steering Committee activities (or Steering Executive Council if the Constitutive Instrument is adopted)
- elect office bearers of the Association
- To exchange ideas and discuss scholarly papers on trends and scope of environmental law especially geared towards the theme of the symposium.
- To agree on how to implement activities of the Association and its future role to the teaching of environmental law in Africa.

Sub-regional meeting on harmonization of Environmental Laws on Selected Topics (SADC)
September 13 - 14 , 2006
Manzini, Swaziland.
This meeting was a follow-up of an earlier sub-regional meeting on the development and harmonization of national environmental laws in the areas of biosafety, environmental impact assessment and wastes/chemicals management, held in Gaborone, Botswana 25 - 28 April 2006. The objective of the meeting, therefore, was to review and make appropriate recommendations on the draft proposals and recommendations that arose from the Gaborone meeting and also agree on the way forward in as far as development and harmonization of environmental laws in the four countries are concerned.
