Sea Secrets: Tiny Clues to a Big Mystery

Invites young readers (ages 5-10) to explore two ocean ecosystems. Collect evidence along the way and uncover the clues! Published September 2008 by Moonlight Publishing.

Travel thousands of miles across the Pacific Ocean from the California Current down to the polar waters west of the Antarctic Peninsula. Explore the lives of three distinctly different ocean animals living thousands of miles apart, yet connected in a small way. Collect evidence along the way and uncover the clues! Field sketches, watercolours and photographs combine to bring you the science behind two incredible ocean ecosystems and their food webs.

Published in cooperation with the Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) Network and funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), Sea Secrets draws young readers into the world of ocean exploration, field work and scientific discovery.

Co-authors Mary M. Cerullo and Beth E. Simmons combine their years of experience in science and education to create Sea Secrets.

Mary is the Associate Director of Friends of Casco Bay, where she works to protect the coastal waters off southern Maine, USA. This is Mary's 13th book about the ocean.

Beth began her career in the classroom and is the Education and Outreach Coordinator for both Palmer Station LTER and the California Current Ecosystem LTER.

The stunning art and design in this book are credited to the talents of Kirsten Carlson, who combines her skills as a biologist, artist and designer to bring a whimsical realism and flow to the pages. Her career as an artist began after returning from a research trip to Antarctica in 1992. This is Kirsten's 3rd children's book.
