Antártida: Introducción a un Continente Remoto presents an overview of the remote white continent. Antártida describes the Antarctic physical and biological environments, human presence in the past and today, the legal and administrative framework governing Antarctica, as well as the threats this continent is facing, and the measures taken to limit them.

Antártida is supported by more than 100 book and scientific/technical article references. It was reviewed by scientists and officers from the Argentine Antarctic Program and by other recognized members of the international Antarctic community. Foreword by General Jorge E. Leal, a key legendary figure of the Argentine activities in Antarctica.

This book is targeted at teachers, students, policy-makers, travelers and people interested on environmental and/or polar issues. 

Rodolfo A. Sánchez is geologist Honors degree (University of Buenos Aires), with postgraduate studies in Germany and Brazil. He started working in Antarctic matters in 1990 and is currently the head of the Environmental and Tourism Management Program, at the Dirección Nacional del Antártico, Argentine national agency responsible for Antarctic issues. He has participated of many Antarctic field summer seasons and a number of international Antarctic forums (including several Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meetings and meetings of the Council of Managers of National Antarctic Programs -COMNAP- as well as many international Antarctic workshops), on issues such as environmental management and planning, tourism, and education, training & outreach activities, among others. In 2006, he was appointed as the coordinator of the Antarctic Environmental Officers Network (AEON), a subsidiary body of COMNAP.
