Welcome to the UNEP Digital Transformation (DT) subprogramme, a dynamic team motivated to accelerate and scale environmental sustainability through the strategic application of data and digital technologies. Our mission is to harness the power of digital innovation to address the urgent challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution, while mitigating the environmental risks associated with increasing digitalization.
Our Vision
At the core of our subprogramme is a visionary perspective. We envision a world where digital advancements empower the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to better serve its member states, partners, and stakeholders in combatting the triple planetary crises. Our approach is user-centric and future-oriented, employing agile methodologies to design and develop digital products and services. This vision aligns seamlessly with the goals outlined in the Medium-Term Strategy (MTS) 2022-2025.
Our Strategic Actions
To achieve our vision, we pursue three strategic actions:
1. Catalyzing a Digital Ecosystem for the Planet:
We're committed to catalyzing a robust digital ecosystem of data and platforms. By setting data standards and developing digital platforms, we facilitate timely and transparent monitoring of environmental aspects within the global community's 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This empowers us to provide innovative solutions, insightful analysis, and actionable recommendations at the global, regional, and national levels.
2. Convening partnerships and multi-lateral engagements to influence markets, supply chains and consumer behaviors:
Collaboration is key to transformation, enabling knowledge sharing and access to the best technologies available. We leverage partnerships to influence decision-making among governments, businesses, and individual consumers. Through these collaborations, we seek to maximize impact by bringing together drive positive environmental changes while enhancing human well-being.
3. Facilitating country-level engagement to strengthen digital literacy, capacity, and governance:
Our commitment extends to supporting country-level needs within both regional and global contexts. We work with nations to identify priority use cases, shape policies, and build capacities that advance national environmental sustainability goals.
