Bailey Nurseries Inc., in Minnesota Mobilizes Customers for the Billion Tree Campaign with Slogan “Trees are Cool!”
St. Paul, Minnesota, U.S.A. – 20th March, 2007 – Bailey Nurseries in St. Paul Minnesota has launched a comprehensive marketing programme to promote the Billion Tree Campaign by asking their customers to mobilize around the slogan “Trees are Cool”!
Widely recognized as one of the United States’ largest wholesale nurseries, with products distributed by more than 4500 independent garden centers, landscapers, growers and re-wholesalers, Bailey Nurseries has just increased their original pledge of 100,000 to 120,000 trees. The original 100,000 have been given to the Minnesota Public School System and will all be planted on Arbor Day, April 27th. The other 20,000 will be distributed to children in Oregon, as half of their operations are in that state. In addition to their own participation, they have mounted a comprehensive “Trees are Cool Program” to encourage their customers to pledge their own purchases to UNEP’s Billion Tree Campaign.
As part of the campaign, they are having “Tree Mobiles” staffed by Bailey personnel that will go out to garden centers on the weekends selling trees, teaching people how to plant them, how to pledge, etc. right off the trucks. Promotional materials include a “Trees are Cool” posters and special tree tags for customers to use to promote the program in their garden centers, free to qualifying customers donated by Bailey Nurseries, and specially designed stickers and t-shirts to be sold at cost. According to Peggy Anne Montgomery, Horticulturist and Media Relations Director, “Our customers care about the environment and are jumping all over this! They are going to dress their staff in Trees are Cool T-shirts, have special Trees are Cool promotions, and help people pledge right in the stores…”
Congratulations to Bailey Nurseries, Inc. Thanks to their enthusiasm, creativity and generous support, UNEP is well on their way to meeting their goal of planting 1 billion trees in 2007.
