A celebration of trees in Italy

Trees were at the heart of Italian events during the week from 17 to 23 March 2007.
The "Festa degli Alberi" campaign was launched in the Ravenna Province with the objective of conveying to the young generation, especially to local school chidren, the importance of tree conservation.

The "Festa degli Alberi" has been instrumental in planting 4,600 native trees, namely 2,000 Stone Pine (Pinus pinea) trees; 717 Holm Oak (Quercus ilex) trees; 312 Sessile Oak (Quercus petraea) trees.

Altogether, 14 events were held involving 6,000 children from primary schools. The pupils planted trees, played games and learned about the importance of trees for environmental well-being.

The vibrant events were held in order to regenerate wild forests and beautify town parks as well as boulevards.

The Revenna Province has generously provided €45,000 to carry out this initiative.
