ENO Tree Planting Day at the German School of Paris

Inspired by UNEP’s Billion Tree Campaign, the German School of Paris used the opportunity of the ENO Tree Planting Day 2008 on 22 September 2008 to make its modest contribution to the global effort of school children to protect the climate and to raise awareness on the need for sustainable and peaceful development.

Sixth class children (12 year old) planted 4 trees including a Canadian maple tree and a ginkgo tree on the school compound and they will take care of them during the current school year in terms of watering and measuring their growth. Next year, the new sixth class children will overtake this responsibility and thus ensure the sustainability of the initiative.

The tree planting was attended by the Director Ms. Vogt , Deputy Director Mr. Friedl and the biology teacher of the class. Ms. Vogt explained the children the symbolic value of this initiative and the importance of sustained and peaceful development. The children were excited and asked questions like “But hasn’t the tree been pulled out elsewhere ?”. And when the boys got tired of digging the ground, also the girls got a chance to demonstrate their power. Environmental protection concerns all of us.

This year, the German School of Paris celebrated its 50th anniversary and we are all looking forward to adminre huge trees when celebrating its 75th anniversary in the year 2033."
