Black walnut tree ttory from Weldon

In Weldon California - the barren desert-like plot at the south west corner of Sage Land and Kelso Creek Road is a 5.5 acre plot where Liz Ryder and her daughter Niki Okuk are planting trees all around the perimeter of the parcels.

Liz lives in Oakland and there is an 80 year old Black walnut tree in her neighbour's yard that keeps dropping nuts into her yard. She couldn't bear to kill the seedlings that sprouted from the nuts, so for the last 6-7 years she has been digging them up and putting them into pots, and later transplants them.

So far, Liz and her daughter have planted 25 trees and have 80 more to go. She hopes to plant more than 100 trees this year. She repaired a well which she now uses to irrigate the trees.

Liz and Niki plan to continue planting trees as long as the neighbour's tree continues to drop the nuts into their yard.
