RSA joins One Million Tree Campaign

RSA, a leading international insurance group, joined the One Million Tree Campaign of Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) by planting 15 trees at Mohammad Bin Rashid School for boys.

EEG had launched the One Million Tree Campaign in February, 2007 as part of EEG’s affiliation to United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) governing Council and United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification. The EEG’s pledge for 2007 was one million indigenous trees; however this pledge had been surpassed before the end of the year.

Having reached the pledged number did not stop or slow down EEG’s efforts to expand the carbon sinks in the UAE; and the campaign has been extended to 2008. With the contribution from RSA, the number of trees has now reached 1,613,134.

The volunteers from RSA, EEG staff, teachers and enthusiastic students of Mohammad Bin Rashid School for Boys, joined hands in digging pits and planting the saplings within the school campus. Students were delighted to receive trees and volunteers from RSA were happy to have a hands-on experience within this green initiative.

EEG Chairperson, Habiba Al Marashi stated that “We are not simply planting trees, we are sharing and commemorating a special moment, in which we give something back to the nature; the nature that we continually consume and damage. Today we had soil in our hands and we hope that this soil will help our campaign to grow and to increase sustainable green spaces in the UAE.”
