UNEP-BPSP THEMATIC STUDIES
Integration of Biodiversity into National Forestry Sector
| Introduction This report is one of eight thematic reviews prepared for the Biodiversity Planning Support Programme (BPSP), jointly-implemented by the United Nations Development Programme and the United Nations Environment Programme, with core financial support from the GEF. The BPSP was created to help countries strengthen national capacity to prepare and implement National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans in compliance with Article 6 of the Convention on Biological Diversity. The study consists of the following: 1. Integration of Biodiversity into National Forestry Planning: A Synthesis Report (Spanish, French) This synthesis report is an overview of the issues surrounding forestry and biodiversity planning. More specifically it tries to cover the main reasons for the generally weak integration of biodiversity issues into the forestry sector. It is designed to provide guidance to biodiversity planners in order for them to be able to fully comprehend the set of issues to be addressed for this much sought-after integration of biodiversity into forestry planning. It is the result of an analysis of commissioned country case studies (Cameroon, Costa Rica, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, India, Indonesia, Mali, South Africa, Zimbabwe ), of the information available on the Internet, and of the thorough discussions during the thematic workshop held in CIFOR's Headquarters (Bogor, Indonesia) in August 2001 2. Integrating Biodiversity into National Forestry Planning - 9 Case Studies This section contains the full text of 9 papers prepared for the thematic workshop held in CIFOR's Headquarters (Bogor, Indonesia) in August 2001. 3. An Annotated Bibliography of Web-Based Resources, Methods, Experiences, and Case Studies The aim of this document is to review available web-based resources relevant to the integration of biodiversity into the forest sector. The document presents first the websites with a brief description of the relevant information available on-line in the site followed by an annotated bibliography reviewing the most relevant web-based literature. For websites, information is given to the page level. The relevant available on-line or downloadable documents are specifically referenced in the bibliography part. |
