CCAC Municipal Solid Waste Initiative (MSWI) Emissions Quantification Tool Testing Workshop

2nd - 3rd March (Phitsanulok, Thailand)

CCAC partner and MSWI implementer Institute for Global Environmental Studies (IGES) will organise a workshop to test the draft version of the MSWI Emissions Quantification Tool with cities participating in the initiative. Workshop participants will test the features of the draft tool, including its applicability, user friendliness and functionality. The workshop aims at having dialogues with, and receiving direct feedback from, city representatives who will be the ultimate users of the tool.

Conference on Mitigation of Open Agricultural Burning in the Wider Himalayan Region, Kathmandu, Nepal

20th -21st February 2015 

Two CCAC partners – the International Cryosphere Climate Initiative (ICCI) and the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) – will be hosting a conference to gather information on where and when open agricultural burning is taking place in the Himalayan region, identify ways the burning could be reduced (and the barriers to doing so), identify key actors and stakeholders as well as establish partnerships, and help in raising regional awareness of the impacts and importance of open burning and the general work of the CCAC in the region.

Andean Regional Conference: Assessing Open Agriculture Burning, Lima, Peru

12th - 13th February 2015

The International Cryosphere Climate Initiative (ICCI), along with the CCAC and with the collaboration of the Peruvian National Water Authority (ANA) and the regional organization CONDESAN, will be holding a conference on open agricultural burning. The goal is identify where and why open burning occurs and assess concrete options for emissions reductions from open burning throughout the Andean region. This Andean work has a counterpart scoping project in the Himalayan cryosphere region.

The Forum, organized by the UNEP in partnership with the Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe and the League of Arab States, will discuss a regional roadmap for cleaner fuels and vehicles and as well as appropriate fuel economy policies in the region. 

Better Air Quality conference

The work of the CCAC will be highlighted in various presentations by the Secretariat at the: (1) Consultation Meeting for the Joint Forum on Clean Air in Asia and the Pacific and the Fifth Governmental Meeting on Urban Air Quality in Asia (November 17); (2) Pre-Event: Household Air Pollution (HAP) Effects on health and climate change (November 18); and (3) BAQ Session: From Awareness to Action on SLCPs in Asia (November 20). The event “Green Freight Day: Asia in the Changing World of Green Freight – Building Blocks for Green Freight in Asia, and Green Freight for the World” is being organized by Clean Air Asia where activities under the HDD Initiative of the CCAC will be highlighted (November 18). Several sessions will also present national efforts to mitigate SLCPs in some countries.

The conference aims to strengthen fuel quality and vehicle emission standards and promote auto fuel economy to support better air quality and energy security through a cleaner, more fuel-efficient auto fleet in Guatemala. The conference is relevant in the framework of the CCAC Heavy-Duty Diesel Initiative.

CCAC Webinar – Oil and Natural Gas initiative

The CCAC Oil and Gas Initiative Technology Demonstration Component will host an expert-level webinar with partner organizations to support the development of technological mapping tools and associated applications to further the public and private sector’s understanding of short-lived climate pollutants emissions from flaring and venting in the oil and gas sector. Webinar participants will also explore options for mapping potential decreases in emissions as a component of implementing methane and black carbon mitigation measures.

5-7 November 2014 (Amsterdam, Netherlands) The scope of NCGG7 will be the innovations in the science, technology and policy aspects of controlling non-CO2 greenhouse gas and precursor emissions, such as methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), fluorocarbons (CFCs, HFCs, SF6, etc), black carbon, aerosols, and tropospheric ozone (O3).

Fast Track to Improving Food Security and Mitigating Climate Change
