First Call for Information - 2005

Through a letter dated 16 May 2005, following GC decision 23/9 III, as part of the process to develop the scientific reviews on lead and cadmium, Governments, intergovernmental organizations, non-governmental organizations and the private sector were invited, to contribute information relevant to the preparation of these reviews, available to them at national level.

The submitted information would serve as part of the basis for developing the scientific reviews and might cover the following issues:

  • Natural and anthropogenic sources of lead and cadmium;
  • Long-range environmental transport, origin, pathways, deposition, transformation and bioaccumulation of lead and cadmium;
  • Sources and releases of lead and cadmium to the environment and current production and use patterns;
  • Current lead and cadmium exposure and risk evaluations for human health and the environment;
  • Current actions and strategies and future plans at the national, sub-regional or regional levels for preventing or controlling releases, and limiting use and exposures, including waste management practices; and
  • Scientific and technical information needs and data gaps related to the above.
