On Saturday, 19 January 2013, in the early morning, Governments agreed to the text of a global legally binding instrument on mercury and gave birth to the “Minamata Convention on Mercury” (read the UNEP press release).

The final language versions of the Convention text as well as of the INC5 report are available here.  You may also be interested in the summary of discussions published by IISD.

UNEP published two new reports in the run-up to the INC5 meeting:  the “Global Mercury Assessment 2013” and “Mercury: Time to Act”. Click here to access these reports.

INC5 was preceded on Saturday 12 January 2013 by regional and interregional meetings (full programme is available here), a presentation organized by the UNEP Global Mercury Partnership as well as other events.
