THEME: Developing the Private Sector Business Case for REDD+
A working dinner meeting hosted by the UN-REDD Programme
The private sector’s role in REDD+ has been relatively marginal to date yet their engagement is critical to the ultimate success of REDD+. One of the barriers to meaningful private sector engagement in REDD+ is the lack of a compelling business case. While a robust case exists for REDD+ at global and national level- especially over the medium and long term - the business case for REDD+ over both shorter time frames and at a scale which is of direct relevance to the private sector is currently opaque. Private sector operating models are driven by expectations of future risk-adjusted returns over defined periods of time. Although discrete pockets of evidence supporting the business case exist, these have not been woven into a compelling narrative in a language that resonates with private sector decision-makers. This working dinner will mark the first step in an initiative by the UN-REDD Programme to piece together the existing fragments into a catalytic case for transformative change in the private sector.
