Focus on finance kicks-off day five

Ways of scaling up private sector investment through public mechanisms was the focus of a well-attended UNEP Finance Initiative side event on the start of day five at COP 15.   A six-member panel of private finance representatives and policy makers led a discussion on the policy options needed to shift private capital towards a low carbon economy and to support adaptation.

Energy-efficient buildings could significantly contribute to reducing the risks of climate change, said a report released by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) today. The study entitled "Buildings and Climate Change - Summary for Decision Makers" called for buildings to be included in any declaration on emissions reductions coming out of December's COP15 meeting in Copenhagen.
