Copenhagen 6 December - The hopes of Seal the Deal! campaign supporters and millions of other concerned citizens are contained in a shimmering silver sphere which arrived in Copenhagen yesterday on board the Climate Express.
The 20cm sphere contains a 350 gigabyte mosaic of stories, voices, images and action on climate change collected from people around the world.
Importantly, the orb unites Seal the Deal! with other campaigns calling for urgent action to combat climate change at the crucial UN Climate Change Conference, including Vote Earth, tcktcktck, 350.org, Raise Your Voice, Hopenhagen, the Copenhagen Climate Council and the Earth Journalism Awards.
“The People’s Orb represents the spirit of collaboration across the globe. It gives the world’s citizens a voice to make a difference in the global battle against climate change,” Earth Hour Executive Director, Andy Ridley, said.
In Copenhagen, the Orb will be entrusted to a sequence of honorary custodians, including Denmark's Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Lykke Friis, before being presented to the governments of the world to signal the international community's urgent call for government action on climate change.
Along with Seal the Deal! supporters' videograms and messages, the People’s Orb contains key climate change reports from the world’s most eminent scientists; representation from the world’s great thinkers on the need for action on climate change and representation from the leaders of the world’s cities calling for action on climate change.
The People's Orb was unveiled on Saturday on board the Climate Express by WWF International Director General, Jim Leape, UNEP's Executive Director, Achim Steiner, and the International Union of Railways Director General Jean-Pierre Loubinoux.
