About

At heart, Signify is about web development - about creating websites that are usable, accessible, functional, and striking, while at the same time meeting the goals of our clients. As the saying goes, a square peg does not fit into a round hole. At Signify we like to match everyone's requirements to the right kind of solution. We work with a number of different products and solutions, open source and proprietary, in order to be able to recommend and deliver the most suitable to our client's needs.
As a New Zealand owned and operated company, Signify is naturally concerned with sustainable business practices. We are proud to be independently certified as carbon neutral and are actively working on all aspects of sustainability in our business. One of Signify’s core values is to "Be Good”. We earnestly believe we have a commitment to being good and reducing our carbon footprint is a key aspect of our commitment.

Strategy

We’re a participant in New Zealand Landcare Research’s  carboNZero programme. We use carbonNZero’s benchmarks to monitor our carbon emissions.   Our workforce policy encourages staff to use public transport to commute to their workplace; we no longer provide company car parks. Staff members are required to use public transport wherever practical when meeting with clients.
Where possible, we use videoconference instead of air travel to meet with clients out of town. When a face to face meeting is required, we make sure we have purchased sufficient carbon credits to offset our travel-related emissions. We monitor our office energy consumption and have a policy to steadily reduce net consumption over time. As a technology company, energy consumption is a significant source of carbon emissions. Approximately 80% of our office waste is recycled, including organic
materials. Staff are provided with at-desk recycling facilities and required to use them. Emissions are calculated annually and our emissions strategy is revised to ensure we maintain our carbon neutral position. With a combination of emissions reductions practices, elimination of unnecessary emissions and an emissions offset program, we are firmly committed to maintaining are carbon-neutral position.
