 Strategy

Wellington Combined Taxis has gone through Landcare Research to become a carboNZero tm certified taxi service.

Wellington Combined Taxis Limited meets the requirements of the carboNZeroCertTM certification having measured and committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions and mitigated its remaining unavoidable emissions in respect of its organisation including taxi vehicle fleet, office administration, staff air travel.

Wellington Combined Taxi’s total emissions for the three month period measured were 1680 tonnes carbon dioxide equivalents (tCO2e) comprising 1668.58 tCO2e Scope 1, 7.08 tCO2e Scope 2 and 4.05 tCO2e Scope 3 emissions. The extrapolated total emissions for the base year are 6720 tCO2e. These emissions were offset through carboNZero programme by investing in VERs2 from PRE3 Tararua II windpower project.

Wellington Combined Taxis have a commitment to sustainable business practice. This includes the introduction of hybrid vehicles to the fleet since June 2007. Wellington Combined Taxis are also presently considering committing to a rule whereby no petrol only vehicles will be allowed to enter the fleet after June 2008. The majority of the Company’s current and future vehicles are evaluated against rigid fuel efficiency guidelines. The taxi fleet is comprised of a range of cars, vans, and shuttles. It has also recently purchased Co-op Shuttles as part of its strategy to be Wellington's “Total Transport Solution”.

Wellington Combined Taxis has also developed a GHG emissions reduction plan. Some projects in this plan include:
• Undertaking a vehicle fleet check through the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA)
• Maintaining a vehicle requirement rule to ensure low emissions intensity vehicles are entering the fleet.
• Providing fuel efficient driving practices information and/or training for all drivers.
