All aboard the UN Kyoto-Copenhagen express for climate change
A one-time train link between Kyoto and Copenhagen opens up next week - a United Nations-sponsored one-month, 9,000-kilometre journey symbolically joining the site of the last global warming pact with what is hoped to be the birthplace of the next major, and stricter, treaty to combat climate change.

UNEP Promotes Sports and Environment Initiative in Kenya

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) on the weekend of 17 October will host an annual event entitled Play for the Planet in Mombasa, Kenya. This event brings together hundreds of children from schools and communities to engage in sport and environmental activities, such as clean ups, environmental awareness seminars and tree planting.

Maldives opens Climate Vulnerable Forum with appeal for carbon neutrality

Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed called on fellow vulnerable, developing countries to embrace a carbon neutral future, during his inaugural address to the Climate Vulnerable Forum, which is meeting in the Maldives on Monday and Tuesday. In the Forum’s keynote address, Nasheed lamented the lack of progress being made in international climate change negotiations and called on poor, vulnerable countries to show moral leadership by shifting from fossil fuel to renewable energy.
