About
Association For Environment and Youth Development (AFEYD) is an NGO of young people based in CONGO (Brazzaville) and led by Mr Roll Matifath BOUESSO, a young person who is involved in the environment. Created in 2007, AFEYD goes ahead little by little and wants to work with any environmental and developmental NGO for a healthy and sustainable development, hence the AFEYD’s motto: "for every young person, a healthy and sustainable environment".
AFEYDs' is translation to French is APEDJ (Association Pour l’Environnement et Développement de la Jeunesse). The members of the association are active and do participate in all activities. AFEYD members wish to have the opportunity to participate in conferences, seminars, workshops, forums, discussions on environment, youth and development for increasing their ideas, knowledges and prospects.
Strategy
The members of AFEYD have thought about the strategies to reduce their GHGs, and have gotten 10 strategies in relation to their sources from smokes in factories and vehicles, production of energy, forest fire and carbon gas. The increase of those gases in the atmosphere does pollute the air. Below are the strategies:
- To plant many trees every year. AFEYD has a project called: 100 trees every six months. The goal of the project is the participation of NGOs from other countries, by bringing their trees to be planted in CONGO. After six months, another NGO can do the same. The project will allow an exchange of trees for a best mutation of biodiversity. Once the trees are planted, they must be protected and conserved, to contribute in reducing emissions.
- To identify the factories which emit smokes, and educating them about the consequences of the smokes inorder to reduce them. There are also old vehicles which emit smokes because of unsuitable motor-fuel. AFEYD forbids the sale of those vehicles and their traffic, having started and practising the principle of polluter pays.
- To prevent forest fires and avoid the cutting of trees.
- To reduce the high rate of urbanization in cities. The states and governments must improve the living conditions of the population in the countryside, villages…to avoid the rural exodus. So, it means the life conditions in countryside and villages must look like those in the cities.
- The areas of accommodation must be aerated, the natural air must circulate in the houses to avoid the heat and reduce the greenhouses.
- The gas from fossil fuels is very dangerous. We must avoid using the mechanisms which provide that gas.
- The use of methane which is produced from animal droppings as a cooking gas fuel, which is non polluting, and can be used to reduce GHG. Here, the idea is: making the recycle of waste to have a non polluting gas for a healthy consumption.
- The solar, wind and hydro energies do contribute to the reduction of GHGs in the use of generators.
- The producer of motor-fuel must well strain it, to avoid its consumption producing toxic gases
- To create an awareness to the population to stop burning waste plastics and plastics packaging, reduce their production and recycle them for re-use.
Note: Until now, CONGO (Brazzaville) has no recycle center of its waste. With its project to install a recycle center in Brazzaville, AFEYD is looking for partners to work in that project.
