About
ARTDOORS is a non-profit project bringing together artists, companies and local municipalities in the effort to help nature back on tracks. How? Artists transform recycled wooden doors into pieces of art, companies buy these pieces of art and the income derived is spend on afforestation in Denmark and preserving rainforest in South America by acquiring deeds ultimately transferring these to the local inhabitants of the forest. ARTDOORS hope to create environmental awareness within the local community and the message is: Less talk, more action!
Artdoors was started in 2009 and was featured with Mariagerfjord Municipality in Øksnehallen, Copenhagen in the week leading up to Cop 15. Since then we have had more than 10 events/ shows in Denmark including a special presentation of the project before Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and His royal highness Prince Henrik of Denmark as part of their visit to the city of Hadsund, Denmark.
At the moment, it is possible to see the ARTDOORS in the Museum of Gas in Hobro as well as on exhibitions around the country where the participants (artists who have donated artdoors to the project) tell about the project when they have their own exhibitions.
As we speak, plans are made to plant the very first climate Forest in Mariagerfjord Municipality and more will follow in the year to come.
Strategy
ARTDOORS areas of work:
- Through a strong visual statement made by artists (the artworks) to help locals to a higher level of awareness on the importance of acting responsible concerning climate issues.
- Through the artdoors to raise money to plant more forest in Denmark.
- Through the artdoors to raise money to help preserve rain forest in South America and hopefully other parts of our planet on the long term basis.
- Creating a project that incites visitors and tourist to come to our local community walk in our forest to see our art thereby showing that even the smallest person can be a player in the big environmental issues.
