About

CCN Nigeria is a national coalition of over one hundred (100) diverse civil society organizations from across Nigeria; working to promote a climate-friendly Nigeria through a multi-sector approach and partnership - public, private, civil society sectors.

Strategy

Set up by a group of Nigeria civil society organizations, CCN Nigeria came into existence in 2006 as an imperative measure to evolve and spur up a national CSO-led integrated stakeholders' involvement in climate solution campaign for effective mitigation, adaptation and national response to the deadly impacts/vulnerability of climate change. CCN Nigeria works in partnership with the Special Climate Change Unit of the Federal Ministry of Environment of Nigeria .

Climate Change Network Nigeria has developed a seven-point action plan for 2009-2013 as follows:

1.    Promoting Grassroots Awareness through Community Outreach on Climate Change (COCC)

    •     Town Hall Meetings on Climate Change at the States, LGA’s and Communities
    •    Dissemination of IEC materials in English and local languages
    •    Alternative to wood fuel technology (as a measure of mitigation and adaption)
    •    Renewable energy and energy efficiency (as a measure of mitigation and adaption)

 
2.    Facilitating Research, Exhibition and Documentaries (RED) among members

    •    Pictorial documentary/ Exhibition
    •    Film documentary/ Exhibition (TV, Radio and Internet)
    •    Research findings on impacts and solutions to climate change
    •    Commentaries, articles, features, talk shows etc.


3.    Promoting Advocacy and Communication (A & C) across all sectors

    •    Multi-sectoral Advocacy Group (MAG) engagement (for Public, Private & CSO sectors)
    •    Media Roundtable on Climate Change
    •    Legislative Engagement on Climate Change (LECC)
    •    Business Roundtable on Climate Change
    •    Special Engagement with Multi-national oil and gas companies


4.    Training and Capacity Building (TCB)

    •    Capacity Building for CN Net members and concerned stakeholders
    •    Clean Development Mechanism (CDM)  and Joint Implementation (JI) Briefing
    •    Capacity building for secretariat staff and National Working Group Members


5.    Renewable Energy Promotion (REP) among members/ stakeholders/ across all sectors

    •    Alternative to wood fuel and other fossil fuel usage
    •    Alternative to fossil fuel sources of energy (wind, solar, tidal wave sources of energy)
    •    Energy efficiency/ consumption (e.g. Use of energy efficient light bulbs)
    •    Technology transfer, innovation and application


6.    Combating Deforestation and Desertification and Flooding (CODD+F)

    •    Tree planting project
    •    Flood control
    •    Climate change and disaster management
    •    Early Warning signal


7.    Implementing Climate Solution Campaign Programs (CSCP)

    •    National Stakeholders Roundtable on Climate Change 2009

    •    Climate Solution Ambassadors (CSA) Program (Nomination and election of committed persons as the FACE of climate solution campaign in Nigeria)

    •    Monitoring and Evaluation (M & E)

    •    Working Group Meetings

    •    Membership Mobilization

    •    Climate Solution Road Walk

    •    Courtesy visit to the Honorable Minister of Environment

    •    Resource Mobilization and Management

    •    Website creation/ management

    •    Newsletter Publication “Our Climate”
