About

Global Footprint Network is an international sustainability think tank that aims at making ecological limits central to decision-making. To do this, it advances and further develops the Ecological Footprint, a resource accounting tool that measures how much nature we have, how much we use, and who uses what. Global Footprint Network and its partners are helping countries, cities, and companies to measure their Footprint and understand the impact that carbon emissions have on their overall Footprint.

Strategy

Through our 10-in-10 Initiative, we are working with governments to adopt the Ecological Footprint as a national metric. These countries have at hand an ecological balance sheet to track their resource use, including their carbon Footprint. Through our interactive online personal calculator tool, individuals can calculate their Ecological Footprint and clearly see how carbon contributes to their Footprint.

Organizationally, Global Footprint Network reduces its own carbon Footprint by providing a communal, in-office fresh daily lunch, and by encouraging non-car commuting and low-energy office options.

To reach the climate neutral goal, Global Footprint Network will initiate an office-wide standard policy on energy use to reduce carbon emissions. For the remaining carbon emissions and travel, Global Footprint Network has joined a carbon offsetting program and asks institutions that invite us on trips to offset the corresponding carbon.
