About

Founded by Emmy-winning producer Kevin Wall, in partnership with former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, Live Earth was built upon the belief that entertainment has the power to transcend social and cultural barriers to move the world community to action. A for-profit company, Live Earth seeks to leverage the power of entertainment through integrated events, media, and the live experience to ignite a global movement aimed at solving the most critical environmental issues of our time.

  • In partnership with corporations, non-governmental Organizations (NGOs), and entertainment and political influencers, Live Earth creates innovative, engaging events and media that challenge global leaders, local communities and every individual to actively participate in solving our planet’s urgent environmental crises.
  • And it all started with a concert heard – and seen – ’round the world! On 07.07.07, Live Earth created unprecedented global awareness for the climate crisis, when it produced “Live Earth: the Concerts for a Climate in Crisis” — the “Most Watched Online Entertainment Event Ever.” The concerts were hosted on seven continents, broadcast in 132 countries, and inspired 2 billion
people worldwide to engage with the issues and the solutions surrounding the global climate crisis.
  • Live Earth has continued engaging and growing its worldwide community through the Live Earth Global Warming Survival Handbook, the Live Earth Film Series, and ongoing online, print, email and mobile campaigns, while also developing key global initiatives for 2008, 2009, and beyond.
  • This winter, Live Earth is orchestrating another ground-breaking, multi-media entertainment event on December 7, 2008, in Mumbai, India: Live Earth India. A critical country in the fight against global warming, Live Earth  India will reverberate across the globe as Indian and western headlining environmentalists, global politicians, cultural leaders and the citizens of India all come together to celebrate the country’s progressive environmental policies and encourage the world to continue the pursuit for solutions.

Strategy

Live Earth set out to be different. The moment we started planning our concert events for July 7, 2007, the Live Earth Green Team aimed to bring them as close to the ideal of “zero net impact” as we possibly could. We projected our energy and resource use, developed a plan to mitigate our impact, and held everyone accountable for success. Disclosure of the process and results is an essential step for setting benchmarks and making event-over-event, year-over-year progress.

After an 11-week accounting and audit, here is the Live Earth Carbon Assessment Footprint Report. In the end, we achieved more than we ever thought possible. This report shows you how we did it, what some other events have measured and where we think the industry should be in terms of carbon performance. As more and more live events plan, reduce, measure and report, we will move the industry forward.

The Live Earth production team will implement the Live Earth Green Event Guidelines developed for the first Live Earth Concerts for a Climate in Crisis which took place on 07.07.07. The Guidelines address the major areas of impact of live events, including recycling, food and beverages, packaging, transportation, energy, water usage, and the event site itself. From power generation at the concert to garbage generated by concert goers, Live Earth will seek to design out waste and continue to be the
model for future live entertainment, while bringing new sustainable event production techniques to India.
