About

Asian Scientific Technologies Ltd (AST) is a New Zealand registered company with operations in New Zealand, Australia and India.  The company’s directors has many years of experience in the Asia Pacific markets and formed the company in 2007, to provide environmental monitoring services in this region.  In response to growing concerns internationally about carbon emissions and climate change. The Instep Carbon and Sustainability Programme was launched in 2008 to provide Carbon and Sustainability Programmes for organisations, events and products.  Instep Programmes are built on a foundation of science and technical expertise with an emphasis on taking real action to reduce environmental impacts.

Strategy

Each year, AST reports their carbon emissions according to the principles set out in the WRI/WBCSD GHG Protocol. The main sources of carbon emissions identified during the 2008/2009 reporting year were travel in company vehicles and air travel. AST aims to achieve a 5 per cent reduction in absolute emissions of 10.46 tonne CO2e in the next reporting period. To do this, AST has been working on the following initiatives:

  • Establish 1 car free day each month.
  • Use the most fuel efficient car for business travel.
  • If travelling to a meeting less than 10km from the office, check for public transport options.
    • Ensure computer setting reduce energy and waste.
    • Create an energy efficient lighting replacement policy.
    • Purchase desk lamps that can be individually switched on when needed.
    • Receive statements and invoices electronically when possible.
  • Purchase re-usable coffee mugs for staff.
