Strategy

Social Responsibility

Social responsibility is Belcorp’s philosophy, which guides the company’s activities. Belcorp’s management also seeks to ensure that the company’s activities have a positive impact on its stakeholders: employees, stockholders, customers, suppliers, government, the community, and the environment. The latter has been identified as a strategic priority for the corporation.

Environmental Impact

Belcorp realizes that all of its actions have an impact; for that reason, the company has made a conscious decision to make a positive impact on the world.

The corporation’s Environmental Policy has the following objectives: prevention of environmental risks and/or incidents;reduction and/or offsetting of any pollution which Belcorp may be responsible for through its operations;  and  regular monitoring (using a GRI measurement standard) of the effectiveness of the corporation’s environmental programs.

To ensure compliance with this policy, Belcorp has created an Environmental Management Committee, which is comprised of committed individuals from various sections of the corporation.

Three-Front Strategies

The company’s strategies and action plans are aimed at three fronts:

1. Offices: as part of the company’s culture generating a value chain.
2. Manufacturing plants: the company’s main responsibility as manufacturer.
3. Distribution channels: a commitment to the sales force.

Belcorp’s goal is to ensure that its employees and collaborators actively contribute to these plans, always with due respect to the environmental laws of the countries where the company operates.

1. At the office level, Belcorp:has been working with employees to promote environmental awareness and commitment; implemented a solid waste management programme, including waste segregation and recycling; will adapt equipment and infrastructure to increase energy efficiency and reduce consumption, including through measuring personal consumption;
will gradually eliminate polluting, non-biodegradable, and non-recyclable materials. has embarked on voluntary mitigation activities in collaboration with local governments, such as a recently-launched programme entitled “Sembrando Vida” (“Planting Life”), whereby Belcorp invites its collaborators to plant a given number of trees each year.

2. At the manufacturing level, Belcorp is planning to:use renewable sources of energy, such as solar energy; obtain ISO14001 certification;  gradually migrate to using recyclable and/or bio-degradable containers and ecology-friendly chemicals; and
reduce and reuse waste and effluents.

3. At the distribution level, Belcorp is planning to:reduce and offset the impact of promotional materials, including using certified paper from sustainable forests and biodegradable plastic bags;
convert to recyclable alternatives for placing orders; reduce and offset greenhouse gas emissions from the use of fuel in the distribution of its products; and manage warehouses in an ecologically efficient manner.
“This is hard work, but we know we can achieve it through the passion, commitment and enthusiasm of each of our collaborators, because, more than just a corporation, we are a great team capable of turning extraordinary things into reality.” - Paul Duclos, R&D Corporate Expert
