About

In January 2005, EURO-NAT Group, which has a strong presence as a manufacturer and distributor of organic foods, developed a logical interest in organic cotton and created a subsidiary company, Biocoton Ltd. dedicated to the manufacturing and marketing of products made from organic cotton. The company thus benefits from the commercial power of the EURO-NAT group.

Biocoton Ltd. offers a wide range of services to professionals as well as the individuals in the following areas:

  • Manufacturing, promotion and marketing of organic cotton products;
  • Creating BIOCOTON clothing brand and collection;
  • Import and distribution of organic cotton in raw material (cotton in bulk) and thread.

The company has ongoing fair trade projects in Benin and India. The Himshikha Development Project (HDP) in India was established in 2007 with a mission to develop and promote creative solutions to problems that impede sustainable social development, primarily in India. Created as a private, non-profit foundation under section 25 of the Companies Act of India, it intends to have branches and independent affiliates in other countries in the coming years.

     Himshikha is committed to building ecologically, economically and socially sustainable society by advocating for and popularising organic farming, ecological balance, natural resource management, biodiversity conservation and protection of environment. It focuses on sustainable development, health, education, culture, and rural development. It is dedicated to improving living conditions of the rural community and create opportunities for them, without regard to their faith, origin or gender.

Strategy

 Himshikha works closely with International Companies like EURO NAT, BAO, BIOTEXTILES, LA FIBRE VERTE, JRH, other various civil society organizations, NGOs, non-profit organizations, research institutes like agriculture universities and concerned government departments in addition to the targeted community in developing and promoting environmentally sound and sustainable projects.
Himshikha Development Project seeks to improve the livelihoods of the people engaged in sustainable businesses such as organic farming, green and renewable energy in its broadest sense. It has been continuously engaged in building the competence of farmers engaged in organic farming by working closely with them on developing organic culture to meet the sustainable fair trade requirements. HDP has deputed a team of dedicated workmen led by a qualified and experienced consultant on organic
farming to provide the farmers expert advices, guide them and train them on better farming practices, waste management, preparing natural fertilizers, human and animal health care and pest management. More specifically, as part of the project's efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Himshikha pioneered methane (CH4) capture for household energy use, such as cooking. Methane is a potent
greenhouse gas with a high global warming potential. It is over 20 times more effective in trapping heat in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide (CO2) over a 100-year period and is emitted from a variety of natural and human-influenced sources. In addition, the entire textile production process is powered by wind energy.
