Strategy
The Deloitte office in Chile has recently applied a high level of social responsibility in regards to climate change. Deloitte, Chile has initiated the Pilot Project, “Sustentable en Nuestra Huella”, which quantitatively measures the carbon dioxide emissions generated from the transportation of its employees. This is the first pilot project in Chile of this type, and it is based on the methodology of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. The company has decided to measure the emissions generated from transportation because during the period from 1984 to 2006, the transport sector generated the highest percentage of greenhouse gases in Chile, in comparison with the other types of activities.
The planned strategy of “Sustentable en Nuestra Huella” considers ways to reduce greenhouse gases by measuring the amount of emissions generated from transport, food and water consumption, and personal electricity use. Deloitte, Chile realizes that numerous solutions exist, but believes that the application of these solutions depends on the current generation making compromises in order to preserve the environment for future generations.
