About

EFG HOV+DOKKA AS is a Norwegian private limited company owned by EFG European Furniture Group AB which is the 6th largest furniture manufacturer in Europe. EFG HOV+DOKKA AS has a turnover of approximately 390 million NOK (48 mill. Euro) and 90 employees. Their vision is, with the most inspiring, functional and sustainable solutions, to be the Northern Europe’s leading supplier of furniture within office and public environments. They plan to get there through sustainable resources, effective processes and true sincere relations.

Climate Neutral in 2008

EFG HOV+DOKKA AS has been climate neutral since 2008. The Carbon Footprint Analysis has been calculated according to the principles of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and includes the use of company cars, car allowance, air travel, electricity consumption and waste. They buy Green Source electricity. The CO₂ emissions have been compensated for by emission credits issued by UN. These are part of the Kyoto Protocol's mechanism called the Clean Development Mechanism. The total CO₂ emissions have been reduced every year, and in total, from 2007 to 2009 by 18 per cent. Emissions per employee and per turnover have also been reduced since 2007.

Strategy

EFG HOV+DOKKA wants to cause the minimum possible negative environmental impact. Their climate neutral strategy is to annually calculate the carbon footprint, look for improvement areas, act and reduce, compensate by emission credits, communicate and evaluate. Being climate neutral is a dynamic and continuous process. They plan to also influence and advice customers and suppliers in doing the same.

Areas of action:

  • Direct emissions: Company cars; One of the criteria for choosing company cars has been CO₂ emissions per km. From 2011 EFG HOV+DOKKA plans to choose cars with lower CO₂ emissions per km. than before (below 130 gr. per km.)
  • Indirect emissions:
    • EFG HOV+DOKKA have reduced CO₂ from purchased energy by 44 per cent since 2007. The main reason being that they were able to buy district heating in 2008. They buy only green source electricity (renewable energy).  As they are renting their premises, further improvement in for instance increased district heating is outside of their control.
    • Emissions from air travel have been reduced by 72 per cent since 2007. The main reason being that video conference meetings have, to a large extent, replaced air travel. Air travel has been reduced to a minimum. Their goal is therefore to keep the present level.
    • The use of paper is reduced to a minimum as all information is published on their intranet and printing is in most cases unnecessary.
    • EFG HOV+DOKKA will continue sorting their paper and waste for incineration and recycling into fractions and let it be handled by an environmental service company.
    • They have 13 showrooms in Norway. 4 of these are virtual showrooms meaning that office space has been reduced. Their plan is to transform more showrooms into virtual showrooms in 2011.
  • EFG HOV+DOKKA AS is part of EFG European Furniture Group ab. The manufacturing companies in the group are certified according to ISO 14001 and are constantly working with improvements.
  • They have Environmental Product Declaration (EPD based on ISO 14025) for the most important products.
  • They follow the REACH regulation. REACH the European Community Regulation on chemicals and their safe use. It deals with the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemical substances.
  • EFG HOV+DOKKA are members of Grønt Punkt Norge AS ("Green Dot Norway plc"), a company responsible for financing the recovery and recycling of used packaging on behalf of the industrial sector.
  • They pay a fee for their use of packaging. The recycling schemes organized by Grønt Punkt Norge are based on trade agreements with the Norwegian Ministry of Environment for each of the relevant packaging fractions and recycling targets.
  • Several of their products have the Nordic Ecolabel which is the official ecolabel for the Nordic countries. The purpose of the Ecolabel is to contribute to sustainable manufacturing and consumption.
