GEQ Chile S.A. was created in December 2007 as an environmental advisory service company that originally focused on the Chilean salmon industry but now covers other industrial areas.
Located in Puerto Varas and Santiago, our mission is to become leaders in sustainable strategies for all industry sectors through information technology (IT) support tools and consulting.
Strategy
As people say “practice what you preach”, in order to demonstrate and prove our awareness regarding global warming issues, the first action for 2008 was to establish a baseline CO2 emissions scenario in our main office and then purchase offsets through FIRSTCLIMATE for a total amount of 33 ERU credits.
Despite the growth of GEQ Chile in terms of employees, we hope to have less CO2 emissions during 2009 as a result of employee efforts to initiate high energy efficiency measures and reduce energy consumption, leakages, paper expenses. GEQ is also planning to build a new office and considering energy efficienct installations and renewable energy power.
Furthermore, as well as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility program, GEQ Chile launched a number of eco-friendly initiatives in order to increase awareness concerning climate neutrality, including:
- Developing a web CO2 emission calculator as from a national emission factors that aim to play an important role in the region.
- In the end of this year, launching a new website www.reducetuhuella.org (still on construction) which’s scope is to support one charity Foundation to promotion and share knowledge about these issues and tools.
- Promoting use of web communication technologies in meetings mainly, in order to avoid travels and consequently GHG´s emissions.
- Working in small scale hydropower generator projects towards ERUs.
Finally, our first annual Social Responsibility Report is under construction and will be released at the end of 2009.
