    Green Domus Sustainable Development [ About] [Strategy] [Photo Gallery]

About

Green Domus was founded in 2005 with the mission of developing sustainable business, exploring the tripod: economic, social and environmental. Since its foundation, Green Domus has developed Clean Development Projects (CDM) and other emission reduction projects that are avoiding the emission of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and seeks to reduce around 6 million tons of CO2 or its equivalent by 2015.

Green Domus vision is to be a reference company in sustainability and thier values are:

  • Local solutions adequate to Global issues;
  • Straight communication and ethical commitment in all relationships;
  • Innovation and proactivity for sustainability;
  • Continuous learning and improvement.

Strategy

The business as usual path for CDM project developers or project owners is to issue a Certified Emission Reductions (CER) and sell it to companies based on annex I countries that have committed emission reductions. This framework allows the economy to distribute resources over the world and find the most cost effective emission reduction projects and solutions.

Green Domus understands that there is an opportunity in allowing people and company based on non-annex countries to also contribute, voluntarily. Of course, neutralizing emissions is not as easy as reducing emissions and Green Domus is focusing on using its expertise of emission inventory and CDM projects to promote emission offsetting based on CER “voluntary cancellation” over the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). This procedure, assures that all CERs used to offset activities worldwide can not be sold to be used as a tradable emissions reduction anymore, having no further market value.

With this initiative, over a sustainable and economy scale, the objective is to generate more voluntary interest on “compliance alike” solutions, that uses compliance structures for voluntary commitments, to promote extra economic resources and private incentive that should support marginal impulse to emission reduction projects. As long as they are aware that it is the first time that a company launches a solution to neutralize GHG emissions based on CERs cancellation.

Green Domus will finish their 2009 inventory by July 2010 and neutralize their emission for the period as made in 2008. The short term goal is to create public interest on this kind of solution. The medium term goal is to reduce CER selling to compliance buyers and motivate its cancellation over voluntary buyers. The long term goal is to make it available, with the same quality and transparency pattern, to individuals. At this point Green Domus is working together with You Sol, which is part of the Climate Neutral Network to develop long-term solution alternatives.
