Greenfest is Brisbane's free green festival. The 2009 event celebrated Brisbane's 150th birthday and welcomed those promoting foundations for a cooler planet. The theme for 2009 was "Community Warmth Can Cool the Planet!", with a focus on fresh conservation, community development and clean technology. Communities and organizations from around the world were invited to exhibit and help us build a critical mass of positive energy in one place at one time every year. There is an unprecedented alignment of environmental and economic opportunity. Greenfest is designed to provide a focal point for positive actions engaging this opportunity in the race against climate change. For organizations it offers the perfect environment to research, test and promote new ideas. For musicians, film makers and the arts it offers the chance to strike the rhythms of a cooler planet. For audiences if offers a chance to participate and interact with people who are not segmented into production line behaviour.
We believe creativity and confidence in eachother are key to reinvent the world we want. Bringing people together to share ideas and plans on a cultural platform is resulting in new creative networks at Greenfest.
The festival was opened in 2008 by Dr Jane Goodall and had over 50 bands, 60 speakers, 150 commercial exhibitors, film, art and children’s activities all free to 35 000 people that attended our first year in 2008.
Greenfest Pty Ltd (ACN 125 745 913) is a privately owned independent Australian business with a constitution for non-profit. No exhibitor or sponsor owns shares in Greenfest Pty Ltd.

Strategy
Our strategy has three elements: Purpose, Education, Production
1.The purpose of Greenfest is to accelerate the rate of change in consumer
behaviour The purpose of Greenfest is to create a dynamic gathering of new ideas from all industries, conservation groups, government and other community groups. This gathering provides the opportunity for individuals and networks to adjust towards greener behaviour, giving both producers and consumers a confident environment to interact.
In order to change behaviour it has to happen in a social and cultural context. Greenfest provides a rich blend of music, food, fashion, film, art, comedy and more to socialize the changes and learn from each other. We believe the most effective change will be made from the bottom up one person and one choice at a time.
In 2008 we attracted 157 exhibitors from all major consumer industries. Exhibitors and visitors were excited with the diversity of participation and confidence in each other to effect change grew through the event.The primary impact of Greenfest is thousands of people believing they can work together for a cooler planet and taking steps to do so.
2. Education is throughout the event from exhibitors to speakers and film We provide discounted exhibitor pricing for those offering high quality educational content, free space to conservation groups focused on education instead of memberships.
There are workshops in "how to" in areas from careers decisions to organic gardening. There are speakers and film addressing key areas of impact and we commence the three day program on a Friday to provide access to schools.
3. Walking the talk in our own production The festival also plans for its own production to be climate neutral through:
• Choice of green power
• On site recycling and waste wise event
• Use of biodegradable plates and utensils for food
• Non toxic and recycled printing
• Fair trade uniforms
• Minimizing production beyond function
• Directing style of exhibitions for exhibitors to be appropriately functional
• Offsetting the reduced and measured impact to be a carbon neutral event
We are innovating with the use of renewable power throughout the event including powering stages and cinema from 2009 onwards.
