About

At Grupo Orquidea, we hold ourselves to the highest standards in terms of how we run our business and interact with the community and nature, as well as the positive impact we have on the environment. Since 2007, our presence in Honduras has motivated us into becoming the leaders in advanced hydroelectricity projects in the country.

Our team is comprised by specialists in every area of renewable energy projects and work in conjunction with local leaders in order to maximize the community partnerships. Grupo Orquidea shares the very serious concerns of many regarding the potential effects of global warming and human contributions to the burning of fossil fuels for electricity production, transportation, manufacturing, agricultural activities and deforestation.

To effectively address global warming, actions addressing all contributing sources must be taken. To be successful, the response to global warming requires commitment by private sector businesses, all levels of government, and every member of the public. For these reasons Grupo Orquidea, remains committed to the people of Honduras in the long term partnership of producing clean renewable hydroelectric energy for the continuous growth and development of the communities around our projects.

Strategy

Grupo Orquidea strongly believes in the necessity of development of the communities that surround our projects by means of educational, social, health and environmentally friendly programs. The wellbeing of the communities form an integral part of the day to day business as we look unto them as key members of the success stories throughout the growth of the project. We have an unmatched respect for the land. A community’s setting — the land in its natural state — can never be replaced.

Before we build, we give studious consideration to environmental planning and community concerns and then our expert engineers in conjunction with environmental specialists begin the task of planning a rigorous strategy to reforest and recover soil degradation by means of careful planning that allows the sustainable growth of Grupo Orquidea’s projects.

Grupo Orquidea presently runs various hydroelectric power plants throughout the whole of Honduras and each project does not only supply green electricity to the national grid but also contributes to the sustainable development of the local communities, the host country and the world in social, economic and environmental aspects by means of reduction of GHG emissions since the portfolio of energy supply on Honduras is still dominated by large scale thermal power plants. Grupo Orquidea supports the under privileged and poverty stricken regions and increase the local economies by investing and consuming in local goods as well as creating job opportunities during the construction and operational period of each project.
