About

Kenya China Travel & Tours (KCTT) was established in 2003 in Nairobi, Kenya. The headquarters of KCTT is located in Nairobi, and they have also opened an office in Beijing, which mainly provides Chinese clients with a tailor-made Kenya safari service.

As a leading Chinese travel agency in Kenya, KCTT is the strategic partner of many travel agencies based in China, such as China International Travel Service, Ctrip, and China Youth Travel Service.

Since its inception, KCTT’s fundamental approach to business has been a commitment to long-term sustainable value for all parties concerned. With the vision of being the start of “loving Africa” for Chinese people to an African ‘love affair’, KCTT has focused on Kenya Safaris over the past 7 years.

KCTT also makes an additional contribution to Kenyan communities, by active participation in local affairs, which includes sponsoring long-distance runners and pulishing a Chinese book introducing Kenya.

History

2007:  KCTT launched the “Loving Africa” website, which provides Chinese people with a window to knowing Africa.
2007:  Animal’s paradise: Kenya was published, which is writen by the general manager of KCTT, Zhang Yuanxiang. It is introduced in the Lonely Planet Kenya Chinese version.
2006:  KCTT assisted Luo Hong to hold a photograph exhibition in UNEP.
2006:  KCTT sponsored Kenyan long-distance runners to attend Shanghai Dongli marathon. The athletes won the top 3.
2005:  KCTT sponsored Kenyan long-distance runners to attend Xiamen Jiafa International marathon. One of the Kenyan athletes won the marathon.
2004:  The Minister of Tourism of Kenya visited China with the assistance of KCTT.
           As a result of this visit, Kenya was officialy listed as one of the destination countries for Chinese people.
2003:  Kenya China Travel & Tours (KCTT) established in Kenya.

Strategy

Since the main business of KCTT is arranging safaris for Chinese tourists, the strategy is focused on education and carbon neutral activities for both staff and tourists.

The initiative is composed of 3 phases:

Phase I (2010-2011): Project design and preparation

Target:

 - To educate Chinese tourists about the concept of “Green Tourism” and specifically, how to reduce negative impacts when they are on safari.
 - To educate tour guides and drivers about environmentally friendly behavior on safari.
 - To carry out a “Green Office Plan” in both Nairobi and Beijing offices.

Implement Planning:

 - Green Tourism Passport:
KCTT will publish a “Green Tourism Passport”. Every client of KCTT will get one copy of it as a souvenir and also a pledge with their own signature.
This project will be started from 2011. Around 5,000 Chinese clients will be reached through KCTT every year.

 - Green Education:
KCTT will carry out internal “Green Education” with acivities below:

1. Green Office:
Turning off the standby power of computers, printers, scanners and other office facilities;
Making the best use of daylight and turn off the lights when it’s not necessary;
Replacing old incandescent lights with the lowest energy versions available;
Printing internal documents double-sided and using recycled paper.

2. Participating in Greenbelt Movement:
KCTT will join the Greenbelt Movement every year with planting trees by each employee, both in Nairobi and Beijing offices.

Phase II (During2011): Activities in China.

Target:
−    To launch the Green Tourism Initative and One Dollar Project in China.
−    To educate Chinese university students about green tourism and climate neutrality and to have a positive impact towards Chinese tourists through opinion leaders.
−    To contribute to environment protection projects in Kenya.

Implement Planning:
−    A launching ceremony of the Green Tourism Initiative in Peking University, which will involve over 10,000 students to sign the Green Tourism Pledges.
−    A Green Tourism Photography Contest in Peking University. The Clients of KCTT will be also invited to participate in the contest to show the beauty of Kenya through their lenses. The top 10 winners of this contest will be invited to visit Kenya.
−    All-round media coverage on the Green Tourism Initiative to make the voice heard by Chinese people.
−    One Dollar Project:
Every client of KCTT will contribute one dollar to environment protection projects in Kenya. According to the number of clients, KCTT will donate the fund to UNEP projects. The fund is expected to be $5,000 on average each year, which will be donated to an environmental charity.

Phase III (During 2011, and beyond): Nairobi events

Target
−    To amplify the impact of events held in China.
−    To carry on the climate neutral education.

Implement Planning
−    Winners of the Green Tourism Photography Contest will be invited to experience a low carbon safari in Kenya.
−    A tree planting event will be held in or around Nairobi.
−    The contest winners will share their experience on low carbon safari on Sina Microblog while the most popular “opinion leader” will be assigned as the “Low Carbon Safari Campus Ambassador” from KCTT for one year.
